I think these 3 bands, and I'd put the Beatles in with them for this 
classification, really require that you were around when they first came 
out, revolutionizing the industry. A huge part of the fascination with these 
bands really stems from their novelty and genius when they first came out. I 
can look back and appreciate their genius in this area....but their music by 
itself just leaves me flat.

With the possible exception of Led Zeppelin, who is by far the most talented 
of the groups listed. Too much Plant screeching for my liking though.
