I rarely use a pressure washer if so I get the head far from the surface as to
be careful not to damage the wood. Usually I use an 8:1 ratio of water:bleach
mixture (this is not very different from the commercial cleaners you can buy,
ever smell them? kind of bleachy smelling?).

#1. Sweep off deck.
#2. Wash of deck with garden hose and spray nozzle.
#3. Using garden sprayer mix-up bleach mixture and spray on deck liberally,
(Sam: that means use a lot not hire a democrat).
#4. Wait about 15 minutes, then use a scrub brush attached to a broom stick.
Scrub lightly, do not scrub with brute force or you will tear up the wood and
make it fibrous.
#5. Rinse the deck thoroughly and let it dry.

It is best to do this on a warm and sunny day. The sun helps bleach the deck.
Make sure to cover plants so as to protect them from the overspray. Bleach and
plants do not mix well.
