I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but in the suburbs around here there's
unprotected networks all over the place and I use them all of the
time.  My wife has a cell card for access but it's only 56k so when we
go house hunting we just bring a laptop and connect to any of the 20
networks in the area we're in.

I just set up my brother's and he wanted me to leave it open so
neighbors could connect if they needed to; I did change the SSID to
leftbun though.
