I've heard there's a little known law: cable companies must offer a
"local channels only" option.  Since they don't want you getting that
they never advertise it, but if you ask for it they must provide it.

We've done it for years since it's only $10 and it eliminates the need
for antennas.  Plus, the few companies we've got it from don't bother
to filter much out so you get some of the regular channels for free.

For example we have Comcast now and pay $10 for local channels only
but we get MSNBC, ESPN, MTV, TBS, WGN, WE, BET, Outdoor Network, Game
Show channel, and, maybe a few others I can't think of.

Anyway we had to argue with them and talk to a manager before we got
it, but now we have it.  We've done that a few times and now we have
our phone and internet via the same connection.
