Actually there's a general usability rule of thumb (I think Jacob Neilson
coined it) that says "de facto standards should always be used unless you
can improve usability by more than 100%".

In other words unless you can more than double something's effectiveness use
what everybody expects (even if it's "wrong") because it will be more
usable.

In different other words, if you're building a shopping cart, do it like
Amazon does it.  ;^)
