You can buy a can of stuff that freezes gum - this could work on the
caulk too.  Then store a pliers and hammer in the freezer until you're
ready and bang or squeeze away.  It should break the chunks up into
pieces that you can vacuum up.

The WD-40 might work and you could also as a last resort try the iron
over newspaper method.  Once you get the big chunks broken and
vacuumed up (so you're just left with little pieces) you can then put
a newspaper or brown bag over the remainder and then carefully iron
over the top.  Hopefully the paper will absorb the melted caulk or, at
a minimum, the caulk will stick to the paper more than the carpet.
