Well - I'm not so sure it's real (nothing in it is beyond the capabilities
of a college student looking to enhance a demo reel) - but it definitely
fits with the rumors we've been hearing.

I think it may be subtly misleading tho': from the video it's easy to assume
that the headset contains displays (as in "real" VR) but I really doubt
that's the case. Instead I would guess that they're shutter glasses used in
front of a regular TV to produce a 3D effect.

(In effect such glasses flicker in time with the video signal allowing a
separate video signal to be directed to each eye. This also means that
people who are blind in one eye like my wife can't use the system very well.
It also means that, like the Virtual Boy, a lot of people could end up with
headaches.)

(This kind of stuff isn't new - the game "Magic Carpet" supported several
kinds of 3D including shutter glasses, stereogram and split screen/shadow
box. The stereogram version was so coolly weird and didn't require any
extra gear... but it was damn hard to maintain things and you could expect
some nasty headaches afterward!)

They also didn't show an actual controller (instead inferring that all
control is done via motion and proximity sensors). But since they've said
(and the video intimated) that the system would be backwards compatible with
the Cube an actual controller has to be included.

The thing that really made me think it was a fake was the whole idea of a
recordable capability - it almost seemed like they were inferring that the
machine had two separate drives - one DVD player, one recorder of some kind.

This seems more unbelievable to me than anything else.

But still - so very, very cool!
