Well - I just watched the last three episodes in a row and enjoyed them, for
the most part, immensely. Spoilers and such below if you care.

This will be pretty stream of consciousness since its late and everything's
jumbling together.

On a personal note my son's name is "Paxton" and he did not like his name
being used for the villain. ;^)

But that whole story was good - not GREAT, but good. Let's face it - all of
the Trek series fizzle out for their finales. They're good, but not
earthshaking.

I did LOVE the little fly-over of the "Carl Sagan Memorial" site on Mars,
just beautiful. I also found the story with the baby appropriately
tear-jerking (although I don't see any reason they HAD to get rid of the
baby).

The very last episode was actually kind of a let down. I thought Trips
death was stupid and anti-climatic in the extreme. For all of the times
that he's been worse situations and just waited for this he commits suicide?

Would it really have been so bad for them to get together for the last
episode? No, we have to have the death and the angst?

I know they wanted Riker in the show but I thought it would have SO cool to
have a known character appear in the role of "Chef" since we never saw the
character before. Seeing Guinan would have been immensely enjoyable
(especially after the little speech about how people just seemed to open up
to chef).

I really wasn't all that thrilled about the actual plot. It just seemed
false (since, in fact, it was false). The holodeck made for some
interesting stories but the old trek fans know that it's fake - and, geekily
enough, I constantly felt subtly shafted that the "real" characters never
made an appearance. ;^)

Also the two stories just didn't seem to make a whole hell of a lot of sense
- they seemed thrown together. I just didn't feel that Archer taking a
detour before a speech had a whole hell of a lot to do with whether Riker
should continue lying to Picard.

I did like that Shran was featured - he was always a favorite character. It
was nice to see that his daughter as well. But I still would have rather
seen Trip and T'Pal's daughter at that age.
