Agreed. I personally figure that if the person I give a couple of
dollars to spends it on booze, well hey, maybe it's a cheap thrill in
a crappy life, though I won't subsidize it long-term. But I'm merely
explaining my philosophy, not signing up converts.

However, I'd like to clear up one minor misunderstanding -- the fact
that they have better shoes than you do does not mean they have the
same opportunities you do. Speaking again out of my experience as a
flood victim -- our little town was literally flooded with clothing
donations. Only thing was, there were only two rental properties in
town and they were chock full of the landlord's relatives. Clothes on
the other hand, we were knee-deep in clothes....

On the third hand, this misunderstanding does not mean that you are
wrong about the people wasting the resources they do have. I totally
agree on the drugs and cigarettes. But then, faced with an irrational
problem, they choose an irrational coping mechanism, shrug...is it
wise, no, do I condemn them really, no...
