I was 1, in 1977 :)

But...weren't the special affects (ILM) cutting edge/brand new when Ep. IV 
was released? Perhaps that alone raised the perception of the movie. Combine 
that with a classic fairytale (its "classic" because it always works) and 
Harrison Ford....and you've got the makin' of a legend.
