I meant how does a potato(e) gun differ from the late 70's tennis-ball
cannon. It looks like power is the main thing (although we shot the
tennis balls well over 500 ft.)

The ragged bottoms/tops of the can seams would eventually rip the
tennis balls apart, so balloons would not be ano option.

I don't even want to tell you what it does to frogs. I could even add
a good Tip to Erika's list - Don't catch a frog launched by a
tennis-ball cannon in your friend's catcher's mitt. You will have to
buy him a new one eventually, when his mother finds it months later by
smell alone.
