Columbia didn't have the international news coverage on at the exact moment it failed, unlike Challenger. So, there was no way to internally pin that moment down.
Along those lines I saw a fascinating show on the modifications they have made that will, theoretically, allow astronauts to assess damage and apply in space repairs to them.
