So, why didn't you want to keep the original wood floors? I have wood
floors in my kitchen and I love it. Easy to clean, easy on the feet,
more warmth than tile on cold winter mornings, stuff doesn't _always_
break when dropped.... (Though, radiant heat under cork would be ultra
yummy.)

I have wood in the bathroom, too. Though, there it's patched and needs
help. When we finally get around to redoing the bathroom, I may very
well fix the wood and keep it there, too.
