Yeah, good luck. We passed on houses that we knew contained asbestos
tile and when you mentioned layers of flooring I suspected that was
what you had since it's a recommended practice to just leave it there
and build over the top.

Go get a couple respirators now. Make sure they're OSHA/NIOSH
approved, not the useless paper dust masks. For best results you
should also really shave the beard, otherwise you won't get a tight
seal.

On the up side, while asbestos is nothing to laugh at it's also
manageable. It's most dangerous when it's a dust that can get in the
lungs. And IIRC, it's relatively safe until exposed to high temps
(ironic considering what it's for). So consider this incentive to give
up the smoking since that can activate the asbestos particulate.

Again, good luck. (I won't even ask if you have a building permit. :-p )
