This is one HOT GAME! It is not like Ghost Recon which I mentioned previously, but it's a true first person SHOOTER.
The point of all the missions, of course, is to simply kill as much as possible. Ther eare tactics involved, of course, depending on which character you play, but it�s a traditional shooter with sidestepping, jumping puzzles and copious fancy weapons. My GOSH it is fun! I am having a WHALE of a time playing as the Predator! You can cloak..you have the speargun, the wrist blades...the multiple vision modes! The Thermal Imaging mode looks particularly stunning! With the hot-cold red to blue coloration on the silly humans looking most cool. I am really enjoying sneaking close to them and spearing them through the head with the gun, or sniping from long range whilst cloaked and zoomed in. Getting personal with the wrist blades is nearly impossible on most levels, but when you can manage it the effect of the blades on the puny creaturs is most satisfying. There are also multiple death screams. The Alien is a work of art! You can run on the walls, the ceiling...and you start life as a face hugger looking for a host..then a chest burster..and then a drone. So far I have zero ranged attacks. So you really have to use your wall climbing ability and your speed to attack without getting splattered by flames, or bullets into a million pieces. You regain energy by eating your opponents, and gain even MORE energy by utilising your headbite. There is something called a pounce as well, where the Alien can literally LAUNCH itself across the room like a bullet. This is very messy as the puny humans burst into pulp and you're left with nothing to eat, so it is sort of a last resort.If you are very careful, you can nibble the earlobes of the cowering scientists that planned to disect you, before biting their heads off. You supposedly progress from the drone stage through the levels until you are the big huge monster alien thingy (haven't reached there yet). Right now as the alien I am trapped in a cafeteria. Clawing at the walls and screaming hasn't gotten me out of the room yet unfortunately... ^_^. I haven't tried playing as the pulpy human marine, and supposedly that's the hardest character to complete the game as. Anyways..if you are at all a FPS fan you should pick this one up. Just remember..it ain't a Tactical Shooter...its just a nice, very violent, very graphic, kill fest with some very novel special effects :).
