Thanks, but that is definitely overkill. I'm looking for a solution for my
personal email I get through my ISP, SBC-Global. I'm just a code monkey; I
don't host my own systems. If it is simple enough, I could consider my own
mail server, but I have no idea even where to start on an idea like that.

Otherwise, I'm looking for more advance tips on working with an ISP and my mail
client. For example, is there a way to get Thunderbird or another common, easy
to use mail client to down load just the headers, before downloading the rest
of the message? Thus I can ignore a great deal of the unwanted mail.

This could be ideal; if I could do this with the Junk folder my ISP creates
when I use their spam tool. Allowing me to quickly find the false positives
with my e-mail client rather then the clunky web interface.

....To a certain degree, it depends on how much you want to spend. We
....bought a midrange Barracuda (a 300, I think) and we like it. This is
....actually the second one we've been on, since our previous colocation had
....one we paid to use.
....
....There's hardly anything required to set it up -- plug it into the rack,

....is powerful enough to handle all our domains without a problem. It

.... However, they run from $1400 up.

....
....If this is just for your domain, a handful of emails, this is WAY
....overkill. But if this is for a bunch of domains (esp. if you can charge
....your clients for it), it's pretty nice.
