Local and state are fine Larry. I am only talking about the federal
government.

The states are not supposed to be identical. They were set up to allow for
different political systems within the states, banding together only for
common defense and economy.

California and New York would have all the social programs you desire.
Other states would be the stripped down governments that I prefer. That was
the structure that allowed us to become a world power so quickly. Different
people with different ideas could band together and live as they chose, work
as they chose and worship as they chose. It fostered individualism, and
entrepreneurial spirit.

Today's environment crushes the entrepreneur and the individual alike. You
talk about the poor as though you care for them, yet tell them that a
certain amount of their money must be spent to provide for the 'common
good', taking away what they can provide for themselves and their families.
You force people to pay into social security, to provide for a persons
retirement that wasn't smart or able enough to provide for their own.

You make it sound as though before the US went socialist (say 20's or 30's
NRA era), their were no opt in social groups helping the poor. There were,
but it was by choice, and the amount of time and money you put in was up to
you.

I was recently involved in a 'free borders' discussion where some ignorant
fool was talking about how we shouldn't allow any new immigration, how they
were sapping our economy and the like. Well in some states he is partially
right. However look at the huge Irish and Italian immigration numbers over
the last two hundred years and look where those two races are today. Tell
me again how people cannot lift themselves out of poverty without big
brother lifting them from the gutter Larry.
