What they could have done is duct tape their mouths and noses so that they
wont breath in the poisonous CO2...

Guy comes in the room, dumps a box of what appears to be random crap
on the table and says "we need to make this (big square) fit into the
hole for this (big cylinder) using only that (points at the table)".
Iirc duct-tape was an important component in making the scrubber work
so they didn't continue to poison themselves with carbon-dioxide.
