Not sure. My kids are not really concerned with being cool -- they just assume they are. Kids in general, that's a broad, broad question, but... I think a lot of them read the first couple to find out what everyone is talking about. Since the series concerns children who are powerful and loyal and a world where the rules are known and evil can be defeated it is appealing escapist fantasy and readers of the first books wanted more. Is it literature? I'm too smart to ask or answer such a pompous question. Is Willie Nelson or Madonna?
