I think there may be a paradox in that subject line. No matter. There are just some movies that everybody seems to go ape-shit for. The movies break box-office records and get nominated for Oscars. Many of them I just can't stand. So, donning my flame proof underpants, I give you my list:
"Lost in Translation" is a muddled, pointless movie. When I was a boy movie's had plots they did! "The Spanish Prisoner", like most David Mamet films, sucks the talent from its actors and leaves them to vacantly prop up dialog so stilted you'd need a ladder to reach it. "Goodwill Hunting" is, to be fair, not a horrible film. It's just an utterly average, clichéd, mediocre film. It honors this list simply because of the (undeserved) accolades it received. "Anchorman", my friends said, "You've gotta see anchorman!" Well, I've got dumb-ass friends. And, as usual, the one never to forget: "Leaving Las Vegas" is a plodding, plotless monotone than seemingly never ends. It'll bore into your brain like a worm and force you to shoot captain Kirk. Or something. It was bad. (Although I didn't grace the list with any specific films it's impossible to take on this topic without at least mentioning the huge contribution in this area made by Mr. Adam Sandler. In any sane world you'd be stapled firmly to the bottom of the barrel and yet you continually rise to the top. Here's to you, you no-talent hump!)
