I am picking this thread up from CF-Talk. Things to do in Anaheim:
- Disney, Disney, and Disney
- Mighty Ducks (oh yeah, hockey strike, no Ducks)
- Angels (too late for baseball)
- Football: I don't know if USC or UCLA will be in town that weekend. The
Chargers are @ Oakland.
- BEACH!
- mid-October is usually still great for going to the beach in SoCal, just
don't plan to spend a lot of time in the water unless you have a wetsuit on.
- If you rent a car (and don't say I didn't warn you if you choose not to
rent a car and find that things in SoCal are a LONG WAY from each other),
beaches are fairly accessible from Anaheim. Traffic can be a problem, so if you
plan to go to the beach one day, plan on at least half a day if not the whole
day being on the coast, if not necessarily at the beach.
- Some great local beach towns:
- Huntington Beach
- Newport Beach
- Dana Point
- Laguna Beach
You can go west to LA beaches or south to San Diego beaches, but that is a much
bigger haul than hitting Laguna or Newport, for instance.
- Shopping:
- South Coast Plaza- this shopping mall sits on the north side of the 405
freeway near Irvine. It is probably the nicest mall in Southern California,
with prices to match the quality of the goods. If you like high-end shopping,
this is probably your idea of a dream-mall.
- Fashion Island- This is a beautiful outdoor mall in Newport Beach/Newport
Coast with great stores, like the Nike Goddess store that only sells women's
Nikes.
- Desert Hills Factory Stores- If you really love discounts and you really
love high-end shopping, you can't miss this place. East of Banning on I-10
(maybe 65-70 miles via 91).
- Activities:
- Hiking and biking- plenty of opportunities up in the hills to the east.
- Surfing- Great surf can be had by mid-October in San Diego and parts of LA
and Orange County. It all depends on luck as to what size swell comes in during
that week.
