ROTFL!!!!

Thanks, that made me smile.

You said it all with that last line, but let me just add that I want to be
shocked that the Palestinians have become the doyennes of the so-called
anti-war Left in the U.S. and Europe, but mostly I am just saddened by the
recognition that the same people who glorified the murdering bastards that took
over places like Cuba, Nicaragua, and Vietnam are standing up and declaring
themselves in favor of a society that has decided en masse that it is OK for a
teenager to strap a bomb to themselves and detonate it in a crowd of civilians.
That is a death cult, not a society.

I don't see where the Palestinians go from here, at least in the immediate
future. They put everything into the intifada, and once the West Bank barrier
is fully in place, the bombings are going to be nearly eliminated and the
intifada will be finished. But there is nothing to replace it. Arafat destroyed
his people and killed and wounded thousands of Israelis, and all for nothing,
all for the same de facto situation that he walked away from five years ago.
What a fucking waste.

Charles Krauthammer had an interesting comment on the situation, which was that
he figured Israel may have to sit behind the barrier for two or three
generations before the Palestinians accept peace- and he wasn't all that
confident that they would accept it, he was more speculating on the possibility
in some distant future. Someone else made the comment that the world should be
pouring money into Gaza to try to make that place work, but who who try to
start a business in Gaza at this point? It can't be government hand-outs, that
would just go into: 1. Swiss bank accounts and 2. guns.

As for the reporting, people rarely think or see outside their own beliefs,
even smart people. I think about it this way. When I speak, I hear the form of
speech to which I am accustomed- based on birth, education, etc. I interpret
that as baseline or neutral speech. When I hear someone from a different place,
perhaps with a different upbringing, speak, the first thing I hear is their
accent. Their speech does not conform to my notion of a verbal baseline, and
part of that difference I call an accent. Of course, to that person's ear, it
is not their speech that sounds different, it is mine. To their ear, I have an
accent.

Beliefs are, of course, very different from accents. What disturbs me about the
current state of affairs with the Left is the deeply paradoxical beliefs in
non-violence coupled with support for the Palestinians.
