This brings me back to one of my recurring points: he's not very good at his job. By this I don't mean "he's a bad president" or anything so simplistic. I mean rather that he seems to lack, to a greater or a lesser degree, many of the skills which are requisite for a politician. I'm actually considering the career choice of "politician" and the skills that make somebody good at that job or not. Even if 99 out of 100 politicians would have stood doing nothing for seven minutes (or however many minutes) a good politician would have done it OFF CAMERA. A good politician would have had the presence of mind to get up and leave the room. A good politician knows how to compromise. A good politician gets things done without engendering hatred from political enemies - or at least engendering much less animosity than somebody not skilled in politics. A REALLY good politician can get enemies to do what they want and actually enjoy it! A good politician doesn't burn bridges or alienate any more than they have too. Bush, for example, is an outspoken Christian fundamentalist where I think a good politician would practice their faith less publicly. Good politicians can speak well... Bush can't. I don't count this against his intelligence as many people do, but I do count it against the qualifications for his chosen line of work. By this time a good politician would know to stay away from personal transportation vehicles while being filmed... but I'll bet you dollar we'll see our Commander in Chief fall off something else before the end of his term. Further than that I really don't think (and this is purely my personal opinion) that HE enjoys his job. I think he likes the idea of being President, no doubt, but I honestly think he'd rather be doing something else. It shows in all the time he spends away from the oval office. Again - I'm not talking about policy decisions or left vrs right or any of that. I'm just talking about a career choice and what it takes to excel in that chosen career. And despite his obvious (I truly think fluke) success I still don't think Bush is a very good politician.
