I went to Jamaica when I was 14, so check the perspective: 1. Dunn's falls was cool when we did it. I have a fun picture of the family in the falls. But, it is a long hot dusty car ride where you will fear for your life. 2. The market in Montego Bay was interesting. I'm not one to just stay at the resort - I like some to soak up local culture. We did get followed by a little boy who wanted to be our "guide." We gave him a couple of bucks and he hung out with us and then everyone else left us alone. (Don't bring lots of spare money to the market - pickpockets abound.) 3. Don't take pictures of the locals without asking. Wooo-eee, did we blow that one. Damn near got ourselves thrown in jail. (Something about government secrets and cops with donkeys and such.) 4. Eat the local food. "Imported" food may have come a long way since then, but the "pizza" we ate was some of the worst ever. 5. Don't expect anything to happen on time or with any speed. (For years whenever we were running late we were on "Jamaica time.") 6. Bring your own snacks. We brought a jar of peanut butter and some crackers - great for when you realize you're starving and don't want to wait for Jamaica time food service. 7. Eat mass quantities of coconut ice cream from beach vendors. Damn, was that stuff good. 8. Don't expect to get change. If you don't have exact change, you probably won't get any change.
I loved it and would go back in a heart beat. It really was loads of fun and even for a tragically hip 14 year old, being goofy and going to the dance club or playing beach volleyball is just unavoidable. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:171685 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
