Maybe... but there's really no reason for anything other than the Black smoke... and that, at least has some substance (or hides something with substance) since it can drag people around. It could also go all "Smilla's Sense of Snow" on us and end up being some weird meteorite with weird powers that surface in weird ways and makes... weirdos? Perhaps the source of any psychic powers but also the lodestone which was pulling Jack's key?
