I totally agree with you and I'm not saying 'screw the poor'. My
point is that, as a country, we've got to make it a top priority to
have every citizen be competitive in the global labor market.
That's the Moon shot of our generation. It has 3 key components:
(1.) Massive education workplace reform.
1.1) Kids need to learn how to be competitive
1.2) Businesses have to accommodate a different method of workplace entry
1.3) Gov't needs to provide incentives for both.
(2.) The US needs top technology and education infrastructure
2.1) 'Free' WiFi nation wide, at least in major cities.
2.2) Cutting edge cell phone networks
2.3) Revamped immigration to encourage best-of foreign students
and workers.
(3.) Energy independence
A minimum wage works against that just as our current education and
infrastructure does. To quote the CEO of InfoSys, " the global
playing field is being leveled and you Americans aren't prepared."
A forced "living wage" encourages this lack of preparedness.
