I would include in that Reagan's astrologer, his being asleep during
crucial meetings, Haig saying "I'm in charge" after Reagan was
tragically shot. Bush Sr. not knowing what a barcode reader was for at
the grocery.

I actually think what Clinton did was perfectly in keeping with the
role of President. As the most powerful man in the world, he was
getting some not-so-secret service, which from my readings of history
was not a new phenomonon in that room. He had the misfortune of having
rabid attack dogs following his every move for 4 years. In previous
administrations, the press even played along to keep such things out
of the public eye.

More troubling to me was Clinton's initial cabinet and appointments.
They were mostly hicks from the backwoods, and didn't know what they
were doing for the first few years. The penny-ante scandals he was
plagued with scared me more when I realized he did not know how to
play the game, and neither did anyone around him.

I don't care much for what Bush has done, but I cannot fault his
handlers for knowing how the game is played.
