We were talking about things that make me lose respect for the INSTITUTION or SYMBOL of the Presidency.
Getting a BJ while on the phone is wrong. Even if it was from his wife, which this clearly was not. It is rude to the person you are talking to and distracts you from the task at hand. But my understanding of these incidents is they were not during crisis moments where the topic being discussed on the phone was urgent. And AT THE TIME, the person on the other end was not aware of the disrespect. I lost PERSONAL respect for the man through those actions, but not in the office. Truthfuly, I was glad he was getting a little, if it kept his finger away from the button. Of all the people on Earth who I don't want edgy and irritable, the President is at the very top of the list. For the President to consult an astrologer, it disturbs me that national policy may be decided on such esoteric advice. For the President to sleep through important meetings, it disturbs me who is actually running the show. At least Clinton was paying SOME attention. For the entire government to be paralized at a moment of intense national crisis, and a senior member of the government not to understand his role or anyone elses role at such a time disturbs me. Didn't he read up AT ALL about his job? For the President to be so isolated from the lives of the average American as to not know about barcode readers disturbs me that this man was elected to REPRESENT me, and he does not have any idea what my life or needs might be like.
