Had a furnace inspection yesterday. Turns out it is old, very likely producing a lot of carbon monoxide, and in addition has a vent that would definitely have circulated the cabon monoxide through the house. The utility company put a red tag on it and said under no circumstances turn it on until a) the vent is plugged b) someone figures out why it's producing so much soot and carbon monoxide and c) someone takes a good look at the firebox to see if it's cracked. I am just glad that we found out before we lit the pilot, and found out while it's still hot out at that. I almost said no thanks, I don't have time for this right now. Dana
