I'm consistent on all of these points: a person's choice on abortion happens when they choose to have s3x. If they're raped, mentally retarded, etc, then they haven't had the opportunity of choice. If they're stupid, reckless, or both, then they have. If their protection failed, too bad, they knew the risks and choose to take them. The protection-failure case is no different than investing in a bad company; should you be able to have a do-over? No. I don't see how anyone wouldn't agree with that. Why should society encourage irresponsibility and lack of accountability for choices? Especially when the avoidance means the death of an innocent with no choice? The thorny questions for me are teenagers. I'm guessing the majority of abortions come from them and if you're not mature enough to engage in and practice family planning are you really mature enough to decide about abortion? I'd say no. Even in these cases, though, the question is who should be the judge? The government? I'd say no because these questions are sufficiently thorny, but that doesn't mean the government can't highly regulate the practice. But beyond all that ... abortion is the symptom, ignorance is the primary cause.
