And a 500K one at that...I thought it odd too... by the time I had finished writing the message it had in fact loaded, but the fact that "Loading..." kept flashing like that...flashing flashing flashing...
I did like it though. dunno how worried I am about all the data being tied together, growing up a military brat where everything about your life is tied to your SSN and ID is required all over... What is new or Orwellian that it covered? It would have been scarier (to me) if the person on the line had been a hacker calling the guy to let him know she'd accessed his accounts and was now going to hijack his identity all made so very convenient by government contract specifications... FWIW aren't medical records are already tied to SSN by Federal mandate? I used to run the web site for Mailings Clearinghouse (now called MCH) in Sweet Springs, MO (http://www.mailings.com -- OMG! They're still using my code!!! that I wrote in 1999!!!) It is absolutely amazing the amount of information that is available from this type of operation, without governement intervention. In BFE Sweet Springs Missouri, way in the middle of nowhere they have data mining operations...thing is they can get most of the information that is mentioned in the SWF... the fact that they don't speaks to their ethics I think, but the information is there... Didn't Safeway get in trouble a few years ago for selling their ClubCard database including names, addresses and purchase history to insurance companies, who then used the information to guage potential risk and set rates (Butter + Cigarettes = Denial of Heart Attack Claim) SSN is required by most Insurance companies for coverage (in an odd twist, my kids' SSNs are not tied to their records at this time, I use mine...CIGNA got kinda freaked out about that...then I told them to assign a 9 digit string if the SSN was screwing them up, my kids'll get to decie how to use their SSNs when they are 18) Driver's License and SSN are tied by state (at least in WA and KS, the two states I have had a DL issued to me in) the trick here is tying them all together in one system. In reality I think I am more worried about the implications in that IBM RFID commercial, you know where the truck skids to a halt in the road because "helpdesk" is sitting there? How are they tracking the RFIDs in the truck (that's how "helpdesk" knew they were lost)? Satellite? Roadside reader? hrmmmm? -- will "If my life weren't funny, it would just be true; and that would just be unacceptable." - Carrie Fisher ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:177594 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
