The younger ones can be a handful. Perhaps you may want to look at one around 8 months or older. They tend to be more laid back and are some what less high maintenance. BTW all ferrets can be high maintenance.
Also instead of a pet store how about getting a ferret from a ferret rescue organization or shelter. You may want to start off with this site it gives a great rundown on ferrets. Its essentially the FAQ of ferrets: http://www.ferretcentral.org/ It gives a very good rundown on taking care of ferrets.
