I worked for in Cable for 5 years and formed the opinion that this is pretty
much true of the industry. It was funny for the first 4 years during big
meetings the execs would always downplay the idea of them being a monopoly
and that they really weren't acting as one. But then Verizon started laying
fiber and cutting deals to provide their own cable service and all of a
sudden we started making new better packages and improving customer service,
etc.

Fortunately with the Internet and all things going digital, Cables run as a
monopoly is going to be over soon and we will see much better service for
the buck in the next few years.
