I'd change this somewhat to say that the region was stable with
Hussein in power.  Will Iraq itself ever be stable?  Yeah, I think it
can be done but as I said, we need an insurgency-capable
Administration and Pentagon and we clearly don't have that.

My view has always been that Iraq was worth invading, but not alone
and not by alienating the UN.  Our leaders expected the post-war clean
up to go easily and, when it didn't, they just  kept saying that
eventually it would.  They're still waiting and still telling us we're
turning the corner.

We need to get a turn-around expert into office that can put a real
plan for success in place.  But we can't just pull up stakes and
leave.
