It's also very sad when a countries 'success' is judged purely in
financial terms -  by those standards Luxembourg would be the most
successful country in the world, and Iran would be a better place to
live than the Philippines.

I have seriously considered emigrating to Canada, conversely the US
would be fairly low down on my list of desirable places to live.
