I have seen I-270 completely show down in an icestorm. 6 hours to get from Germantown to Bethesda and that is only because I got off in Gaithersburg.
Key to driving on ice is to avoid sudden changes of speed and direction. Slow down and speed up gently. If you skid dont panic and steer toward the skid.
