Gel - you make it sound like somebody casually stated, "i have a bomb" and then was immediately gunned down in a hail of bullets by a group of overzealous law enforcement officials who were shouting "stop or we'll shoot!".
the fact of the matter is that (according to sources), the man was FRANTICALLY running up and down the aisle of a plane while flailing his arms and indicating that he had a bomb (or that there was one in his bag). He was then confronted by air marshalls (not executed by), and he fled. After being told to freeze and lie on the ground, he (allegedly) reached into his bag (presumably the same bag that he claimed was holding a bomb). it was at that point that he was shot. What is it that you would have had the air marshalls do differently? What reaction is anybody (American or not) supposed to have? If, in fact, the man was mentally ill...yes, that's sad. But even so, the law enforcement officials are thinking about the safety of hundreds or thousands of people. One mentally ill man who was off his meds (and why exactly was he off the meds) who is acting irrationally and indicating that he has a BOMB...weigh that against the safety and well being of everyone else in the plane. or everyone else in the airport. If memory serves, the UK incident didn't involve somebody who indicated that he had a bomb (or was armed). Maybe that's why there was a "decided uproar". But I'm just an American, devoid of morals. So why don't you tell me how it should have gone down...or tell me how we should be reacting.
