there are different types of masks.  the one i was using was a
full-face type mask (completely covered my nose, straps over the top
and bottom of my head).

they have one that looks more like what you see on patients at a
hospital...just a tube that runs under your nose and a couple of
little tubes protruding into your nostrils that shoot air up.  I do
suppose that giving that a shot is an option...but I do really like
the option of just a one time surgical procedure and not having to be
reliant on a mask/machine of any type every single night for the rest
of my life :\
