One reason is that consoles nowadays are doing much more than playing games.
And logically, the features that the console brings to the table is an indicator of the types and quality of games one can expect to see on the system. So too,developers stating difficulty with programming for the software, and there not being any live-play PS3 games at CES could be indicative that the system will be delayed, therefore it takes you longer to get your hands on the games you DO want to play, or maybe they won't be as complete or as good.
