It was different. Several characters were combined, the plot was
somewhat changed and a couple of other things. I haven't read it in a
while - last time was shortly after seeing the movie.

There were also a bunch of things that the book explained but the
movie left out making it more confusing.

There were a few other things. however I'm not sure how much is
because of the language differences - assuming here that Myazaki used
a Japanese translation - and how many were because of directoral
decisions in translating the book to the screen.

That said I enjoyed the movie a lot, and intend to get it when its
released on DVD. Has anyone heard of a release date yet?
