I'm in class this week (which is why I'm quiet all day then spam the list when I get home at night). I'm learning "WebSphere Portal 5.1 development with RAD 6".
Now the class expects quite a bit of basic Java knowledge (which I don't have) but I think I'm keeping up okay. Just wondering if anybody is dealing with this stuff. I'm constantly amazed about COMPLICATED this stuff is: to do a "hello world" portlet "the right way" you're talking like 5 or six separate files! RAD 6 (based on Eclipse 3) is okay (not great) but OH SO SLOW AND BIG (the install of everything - RAD 6, WebSphere developer edition and Portal tools - is in the 3 gigabytes range - upwards of 18 CDs). If I stay at the company I'm with I'll be moving away from CF towards this stuff - does it ever get simpler?
