I think we are mostly in agreence. However for the free market to work people need to be eduicated on how buissiness is conducted, not only that but they need to care. I believe this is where the free market CAN fail, notice I say can and I will even say does sometimes. However, apathy towards how american businesses operate skus the free market in favor of companies that are more recluse and less responsible but offer lower price points, this is mainly do to greed which is not a bad trait in this case just a natural desire to obtain as much as possible for as little as possible. A perfect example is Ralphs, yes a division of the company I work for. For year the union was in a contract and when the contract came up they finally said it was not fair. For years the union was not happy with the compensation, and mostly benifits (sound similar) it was made puiblic a few times, prior to renegotiations. Like I said though it was public knowledge that the contract was "unfair" or thought to be unfair, along with a few lawsuits I think. However, due to apathy towards how ralphs opperated allowed Ralphs continued to reap benifits for years. Finally when the contract had to be renewed the union went on strike forcing people to become educated to how "crappy" the workers were being treated. All of the sudden people stopped shopping at Ralphs, some 5 years later and that division is still recovering from that strike, struggling to bring people back to thier stores. This is a perfect example of how the free market failed in my opinion, yes it corrected itself but only after people became educated and that education came at the cost of works going without pay for over a month if I recall.
