Germany sit on the sidelines. I don't think so, especially if the US
can make it a NATO effort. However the problem is with Germany's
history. Its only been in the last couple of years that the budensweir
has been given permission to operate outside of the normal NATO sphere
of operations. At the least I can see Germany helping with logistics
and possibly financially.

That said, chances are though that if there is such a conflict, it
won't stay local to the Middle East. Remember that Russia and China
both have fairly large Islamic populations with active Islamic
Rsistance movements in both countries. There are also large Muslim
populations throughout southern Asia - think Indonesia. So if things
do go ugly, its going to be a proverbial clash of civilizations that
the neo-cons gushed over just after 9/11.
