Stories like this are red-herring distractions. Everyone knows a missle goes boom, so the perception of a threat is easy to see.
The real "arms race" is with not so easily understood issues like economics and the value of the dollar versus other countries and Iran setting oil to the euro instead of the dollar. Or the US setting grain trade policy that require only buying grain using GM crops even from non-US countries. These are the "nuclear" issues of the current day.
