oh ok and it's the nebulizer that does this? I don't think I know the answer to 
that, except that it seems to do the same to me when I am given it and am not 
wheezing. (I wasn't on that ER visit and did not think asthma was the problem).

That head it off at the pass thing you mention sounds like Azmacort or 
something similar. It's different than the albuterol one, right? Thicker? 
Basically, this is classic treatment. 

You might want to research Singulair, as Scott mentioned. This is a new type of 
drug. I don't think it is steroids. Make sure though. I also don't know if it 
is approved for kids. The danger here would be the same as for all new drugs -- 
will some study five years from now demonstrate that there is in fact a problem 
with the stuff?

Although we have this in our family, we have been fortunate to have only mild 
cases. A couple of pieces of advice that I have seen/heard enough to think they 
are good -- keep a record for a while of when exactly symptoms occur. You may 
be able to identify and eliminate an allergen. Also, in some kids, milk 
aggravates symptoms apparently... something else to think about.
