Well, the problem was it wasn't just a couple of hours, and it wasn't
just a couple of days.

It was nights for weeks/months. We weren't getting any sleep, the dog
wasn't getting any sleep, it just wasn't a good thing for anybody.

With him out of the crate he has his settle spot, and he knows when he
is told to go there he is in trouble.

He was abandoned and left for days in a crate in an apartment with no
food, water, or way to go to the bathroom. So I am pretty sure that was
a big part of it.
