then i guess im shocked on two fronts. 1. that we had freakin ports owned by british companies who could give a fuck, when it all boils down, what happens to our mainland. YES, they are our strongest ally in nearly EVERY front of EVERY war since forever ago, but, this is business, and if they are paid enough, corruption can happen. not that it cannot happen to an american company, but they are one notch down, in my book, when it comes to REALLY caring about our mainland.
2. to even fathom that a middle eastern company would own major ports of thoroughfare in our country, is an absolute atrocity. absolute. maybe the UAE is 100% legitamately with us, 100% of the way. however, if british companies are -1, I'd go with any middle eastern country, RIGHT NOW, as a -10. sorry. just the way the landscape has changed. no offense to everyday people of any nation, but money brings corruption, money drives importing and exporting, and for fucks sake, is it THAT weird for us to want 100% control of major outlets into and out from our country? tw On 2/21/06, Nick McClure <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Well, what reason would they have to block such a sale? > > This quote makes it sound like it is a US company operating the ports > now. > > The UAE bid is to purchase the British company that is currently > operating the ports. > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Michael Bramwell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2006 8:42 PM > > To: CF-Community > > Subject: Re: Bush's First Veto? > > > > Its no surprise given the Bush families history of cosy business > relations > > with certain wealthy families from the Middle East. > > > > Michaelb. > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Gruss Gott" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: "CF-Community" <[email protected]> > > Sent: Wednesday, February 22, 2006 8:46 AM > > Subject: Bush's First Veto? > > > > > > > New York lawmakers stunned by Bush's ports veto threat > > > By DEVLIN BARRETT > > > Associated Press Writer > > > > > > February 21, 2006, 7:14 PM EST > > > > > > WASHINGTON -- President Bush stunned New York lawmakers on Tuesday > > > with his threat to veto any legislation blocking the takeover of > some > > > U.S. port operations by a company run by the United Arab Emirates. > > > > > > Rep.
