Yeah - I was a little worried about them. We have "new windows" in our
apartment: but only new windows. They didn't replace any of the casements
or sills. So the windows are difficult to open and lock (due to the old
casements being warped) and still drafty as hell around the windows).

The windows in the new house are all really, actually new - new frames,
casements, sills and windows. They're all incredibly well balanced (you can
unlock, open, close and re-lock them with your pinky finger) and double
paned. The doors, especially the outer doors, are really gorgeous and heavy
(it was 20 degrees outside and you could leave the front door open without a
draft - the screen door is that heavy and well insulated).

The inner front door is nicer than the others with a scalloped, leaded-glass
window (the other inner door lack windows).

The cable is just a pain the ass. I'll be ripping it all out anyway...
luckily it looks like he didn't believe in tacks since almost all of it
taped to the wall/ceiling with packing tape. ;^)

I was looking into options - it's bothering me enough that I'd like to
fix/cover it but not so much that I want to spend a whole lot of money on
it.

If this is a DYI thing for as little as you say then it may be my first big
project. ;^)

(Right now the garage is a staging area for all our boxes so we'll have to
unpack first... but after that it's mine!)
