Because, he believes, as do I, as does EVERYONE I know, as do all the leaders of my Church, as does ALL scientific evidence AND just about ALL philosophical and theological thinking, that they are wrong. The earth (and man) is older than 6700 years.
But if they were quiet about it, and didn't keep thrusting their beliefs into the limelight, no one would care. Once they start to hold their beliefs up to public scrutiny, the public has every right to scrutinize. Do they have the right to bring it up? Sure? Do they have the right to try to change the minds of other people? Sure. But they also have the right to be laughed at by those who do not agree and find their arguments absurd. All beliefs aren't created equal. Just because I believe that the earth is flat, and that all girls who don't go out with me are lesbians, doesn't mean I am necessarily right.
