There is always gray area. Only a religous nut or a Bush worshipper would say otherwise. Self defense is fairly straight forward, and yes, I would include protecting the life of another person as acceptable "defense", wouldn't you? If your deity told you to kill someone, that's murder. If you had to kill to prevent desecration, that's murder.
